The first session is focused on understanding your reasons for seeking counseling. My therapy style looks at how your history affects who you are today--your beliefs, attitudes, perceptions and behaviors. Your personal background, from early childhood on, is a key contributor to how you now live, love, and interact in the present. Understanding what has shaped you into the person you are today is highly effective in the process of change. It is not uncommon to feel trapped into believing, feeling and acting in ways that don't always serve us well.
In subsequent sessions we bring awareness to thought patterns and behaviors that have been problematic, and start to redefine familiar behaviors in a way that offers possibilities for meaningful resolution. You begin to see yourself and your relationships from a new perspective, which often brings hope and motivation to change.
